Paramount+ releases the first look images at the Frasier reboot, and they subtly confirm that Frasier is becoming his father, Martin, in the show.

The new Frasier revival images secretly reveal that Frasier Crane is becoming his father, Martin (John Mahoney). 30 years after the original Frasier series debuted on NBC, Kelsey Grammer is coming back to the small screen to reprise his iconic role. Frasier's fourth act will bring him back to Boston, his old stomping grounds when he was still regularly hanging out at Sam Malone's pub in Cheers. When the snobbish psychiatrist re-settles in New England, however, he will be armed with new experiences as he reconnects with his grown-up son, Freddy (Jack Cutmore-Scott), and revisits some loose ends that he never got to address before moving to Seattle.

After multiple delays, the Frasier revival is officially set to premiere on October 12, 2023, with a special two-part primer on Paramount+. In light of the series' nearing release, the marketing campaign for the project has already started with the release of some new promo stills and a fresh teaser with an updated theme song. No other original cast members are coming back to become series regulars, although both Peri Gilpin and Bebe Neuwirth are set to make cameos as Roz Doyle and Lilith Sternin. Plot details are still scant at the moment, but the new Frasier images offer an idea about what to expect from the comedy.

Family will be an integral part of the Frasier revival despite both Martin and Niles Crane (David Hyde Pierce) not appearing. Grammer has specifically promised that it will honor the legacy of the late John Mahoney and his character. One way that the upcoming show will do that is to draw parallels between Frasier and his father. In some of the promo stills recently released for the project, Frasier is wearing a plaid blue and white shirt — an odd choice considering that he barely wore them in the original show. Instead, they were usually Martin's choice of clothing. In fact, plaid shirts were part of his signature style in Frasier.

Paramount+'s project is expected to explain Martin's fate, and it will likely be a recurring topic throughout the show. Admittedly, there are several other ways to honor the Crane patriarch in the revival, but it's likely that most of them are being saved for the actual show itself. Clothing Frasier similarly to his father is a subtle but effective way to establish Martin's presence in the series. The fact that Frasier is dressing up like his dad highlights the impact Martin has had on him.

Martin may not have a physical presence in the Frasier revival, but his legacy will loom large on it. In the original series, the snobbish psychiatrist was the son who struggled to connect with his father. Now, he is the father who is having a tricky time reforging a relationship with his son. Frasier and grown-up Freddy. It will be curious how much of Frasier's parenting is similar to Martin's when he first moved back to Seattle. If the Frasier revival is lucky enough to last several years, hopefully, it will be able to develop Frasier's dynamic with Freddy the way the original series did with him and his father.
